The impact of dualism on the GCC private sector
Article from: OGEL 2 (2005), in Economic and Commercial Context for Oil, Gas and Energy Law
Abstract
In simple terms, the oil sector has suffocated the private sector in the Gulf region. This phenomenon is not limited to the Gulf, but a general phenomenon in all countries that depend heavily on exporting primary commodities. Academics have coined new phrases such as the "resource curse", "the oil curse," and the "Dutch Disease". The "oil curse" is the cause of "dualism" in the Gulf economies.
