This article is a brief summary of the background to the recent (12th January 2006) agreement
between Australia and Timor-Leste (East Timor) regarding the Greater Sunrise gas field located in
the Timor Sea. The agreement provides for equal sharing of production revenues from the field
despite an earlier unitisation agreement that apportions rights to petroleum somewhat
differently.
