Summary
The United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) was established by the UN Security Council as an ad hoc quasi-judicial body to award financial compensation for the damage caused by Iraq's invasion and occupation of Kuwait in August 1990 and the ensuing 'Gulf War' in January-February 1991. The total amount of compensation allocated by the UNCC until the final awards in June 2005 was $52.5 billion, of which $20.4 billion have since been disbursed to claimants, funded primarily by a percentage share of Iraq's oil export revenues.
