Abstract
This paper analyses the June 2010 Russia-Belarus gas transit dispute and argues that the dispute was triggered by the following combination of factors: existence of several 'fault-lines' in the January 2007 supply and transit contract, such as the lack of clarity and transparency on price methodology and the lack of clarity on the relationship between a price and a transit fee; the lack of transparency in the protocol which set up the Gazprom-Belarus JV 'Beltransgaz', in particular on the relationship between the Beltransgaz wholesale mark-up and a transit ...
