Burning Construction and Demolition Waste: An Assesment of the European Waste Hierarchy and Recycling Targets

Abstract
The objectives of the waste policy and the waste hierarchy are laid down in the WFD and in Member States' national legislation. Their actualisation largely depends on the implementations of WFD on EU and national level. The re-use and recycling targets contained in Article 11 WFD are one of those methods. Article 11 lays down construction and demolition waste stream recovery targets for 2020. In the targets for C&D waste other material recovery operations such as backfilling (but not Waste-to-Energy) can be taken into account in the calculations concerning achievement of the targets. ...
