Abstract
The unsustainable exploitation of crude oil in the Niger Delta resulted in the devastation of the region's environment, adversely affecting the traditional mode of land utilisation. Poor environmental regulations and the inefficiency of regulatory agencies aggravated this situation. The Niger Delta people have responded inter alia by instituting actions and claims based on the tort of negligence.
