The Research Institute of International Law, Wuhan University, set up in 1980, the first research institute of international law in the institutions of higher education in China, is one of the earliest institutes which can confer LLM and LLD degrees on international law and post-doctoral circulation stations in the law discipline.In 1997, the international and comparative law branch was accredited the key discipline for Project 211 by the Former State Education Commission.
Professor Dr. Yang Zewei, PhD Candidate Supervisor of Research Institute of International Law, Wuhan University, made an academic visit to the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at the Dundee University from July to September 2007, which was sponsored by British Academy Visiting Fellowship 2007-08 on "International Energy Law and Legal Safeguard of China's Energy Security". He has ever provided advisory opinion for Chinese government on China's energy security safeguard. At present, Professor Yang is undertaking the project "the Status Quo of China's Energy Security and its Legal Safeguard" sponsored by China's National Social Science Fund, project "China's Energy Security Issues - with Legal and Policy Perspectives" sponsored by Education Ministry of China, and project "Anti-terrorism and Legal Safeguard of China's Maritime Energy Transport Safety" sponsored by Justice Ministry of China.
