Profile
Dr. Gaitskell is a practising Queen's Counsel in Keating Chambers, London, U.K., and acts regularly as an Arbitrator, Mediator, Dispute Board Member, Adjudicator and Expert Determinator in energy disputes. He is also a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET), and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE). As an engineer he was involved in the design of oil rigs and power stations, and now is frequently involved in dealing with disputes concerning such high-technology equipment worldwide. He has conducted about 100 arbitrations and well over 100 mediations, and frequently chairs dispute boards. He is a former Vice-President of the IET (Europe's largest professional engineering body). He also sits as a part-time judge. He is a master of the bench of Gray's Inn.
Dr. Gaitskell is the Editor of "The Engineers' Dispute Resolution Handbook", September 2006, Thomas Telford, London. His PhD, from King's College, London, concerned Engineering Standard Form Contracts. He is the Chairman of the IET/IMechE Joint Committee on Model Forms, which produces the MF/1-4 Suite of Contracts (used for power station and other infrastructure projects). He frequently writes and lectures on engineering disputes worldwide.
