Syed Marzidy is currently the General Counsel for PETRONAS's Petroleum Management Unit, the regulatory arm of PETRONAS that manage the exploration, development and production operations in Malaysia. He was formerly the General Counsel of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd the Exploration and Production arm of PETRONAS a Malaysian State Owned Enterprise looking after the legal affairs of both the domestic and international operations. Prior to his current position he was in-charge of the Domestic/Malaysia and International E&P Affairs covering more than twenty countries in Africa, South East Asia, Central Asia and the Americas. He has experience over the past decade in negotiating numerous agreements with host governments and foreign companies for oil and gas ventures in Sudan, Mozambique, Equatorial Guinea, Canada, Egypt and others. He was also involved in numerous negotiations and arrangements on the upstream related contracts for exploration, development and production activities including transportation systems. Prior to joining PETRONAS he served the Malaysian Attorney General Chambers for almost a decade as a Senior Federal Counsel and Deputy Public Prosecutor and has appeared in the High and Appellate Courts of Malaysia.
