Listed as a Future Leader of the international arbitration market in France by Who's Who Legal, Athina Fouchard Papaefstratiou, Counsel at Eversheds Sutherland (Paris), specialises in international arbitration, public international law and general contract law. She has significant experience in Africa-related arbitration.
For over twelve years, she has acted as counsel, arbitrator and secretary to tribunals in commercial and investment arbitrations in various sectors, such as energy, telecommunications, mining, international sale of goods and construction. Her experience includes arbitrations under the ICC, ICSID, UNCITRAL, LCIA, SCAI, ACIC, CRCICA, ACIC and CCJA arbitration rules.
Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Athina worked at the arbitration boutique Lazareff Le Bars, specializing in Africa-related arbitration, and at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP in Paris. She has also served as legal counsel in the Office of International Standards and Legal Affairs of UNESCO.
Athina publishes and speaks in conferences on issues of arbitration and international law.
She is the Co-Chair of AfricArb, an association of professionals focusing on Africa-related arbitration, the vice-Chair of the Steering Committee of CIArb YMG, a member of the ICC Arbitration Commission, of ICC Hellas, and of several arbitration practitioners' associations.
She is registered with the Bar in Paris and in Athens and speaks English, French, Greek. She also has a good knowledge of Spanish.
