In addition to bioenergy, his research and projects deal with societal aspects of forests and forestry education. More specifically, his research in bioenergy covers the areas of governance, policy, conflicts, as well as impacts and sustainability, and is part of multidisciplinary research team between the Department of Geographical and Historical Studies and the School of Forest Sciences. He has published widely in the natural resource related subject as well as presented his work at numerous international conferences.
Javier's work has a marked international focus, with research and development projects carried out within Europe and beyond, including East (Kenya) and West Africa (Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone), Russia, India, China, Venezuela and Brazil.
