Commenced work as a general insurance broker at Lloyd's in 1963. Began specialising as a financial institution insurance advisor and broker in 1973. Served as, Managing Director of Sedgwick Financial Institutions Services Ltd from 1980 to 1985, Director of Alexander Howden Ltd. and Chairman of two of its subsidiary companies, namely, Holmes, Johnson, Lessiter Ltd and Halford Shead & Co Ltd from 1985 to 1990 and joined Willis in 1990. Up until 1st January 1998 was the Chairman of the Financial Risks and Specie Division of Willis and from that date was appointed Research & Development Director of Global Markets, Willis Limited.
