Dr. Melba Kapesa Wasunna
Profile
Melba is the Academic Lead of the Strathmore Law School Oil and Gas LLM Programme as well as the Director of the Extractives Baraza. She is also a Legal Advisor to several national and international agencies.
She has an in-depth understanding of local and regional issues surrounding the extractives sector and has been a lead trainer at a variety of workshops including the Mineral Law in Africa (MLiA) Colloquium V, African Mining Legislation Atlas (AMLA), Senate Committee on Energy and the Kwale County Assembly Committee on the Legal Framework on Land, Mining and Natural Resource, among others.
She has been a moderator at multiple fora on extractives sector policy, including the Kenya Local Content Exchanges (a discussion forum regarding Local Content issues in Oil and Gas in Kenya), the Kenya Mining Forum (KMF), just to name a few.
She is also reputable consultant specialized in designing policies that promote good governance, meaningful stakeholder engagement and gender parity in the extractives sector through strategic partnerships.
Her latest publication includes the Mining Book: Commentaries on Kenya's Framework Legislation, which was launched in January 2018.
Dr. Melba holds a Doctor of Juridical Science (Law) from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, and is admitted to practice as an attorney at the New York State Bar.
