Kelechi Ojukwu is a chartered Engineer with over 29 years' experience covering both technical and commercial aspects of the oil business including private and public sector expertise. A mechanical engineering graduate of University of Nigeria and postgraduate in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot Watt University Edinburgh, he has completed requirements for award of PhD in Petroleum Economics, Management & Policy at Emerald Energy Institute and University of Port Harcourt in 2020 with thesis titled "Risk-Based Valuation of Nigerian Petroleum Assets". He started his career in 1990 at Schlumberger Wireline & Testing as field engineer and rose to Field Service Manager, Principal Reservoir Engineer - West & South Africa. While in Schlumberger he worked in several countries staring from Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Algeria, Angola, Congo, UK, France, Australia and USA. In 2001, he joined Shell International in Houston as Global Technology Deployment Coordinator and worked across various locations including Netherlands, Oman and the UK. He was part of PDO Oman change management team and Saih Rawl and Ghaba North asset management teams between 2004-2008.
Kelechi was hired as Afren's first Asset Manager in 2010 and pioneered the start-up of First Hydrocarbon Nigeria (FHN, Afren's endogenous subsidiary) as the first COO in 2011. In 2016, he served as Program Manager of NNPC Program Management Office (PMO) reporting to GMD and subsequently an executive adviser at Oando Energy Resources. He was on the board of Hallwood Oil & Gas Inc., a subsidiary of a US company and Ikonic Energy Limited, an indigenous Nigerian oil company. Kelechi has authored dozens of technical and commercial papers in petroleum upstream and holds many technology patents in and outside the oil sector.
