Michael serves as the head of the Financial Services Regulatory Practice for Canada and is a Transactional Partner in Baker McKenzie's Toronto office. He has specialized expertise in financial regulation, compliance and corporate law concerning financial institutions in Canada. He provides advice on regulatory matters, compliance and public company disclosures, including ESG.

Michael plays an integral role in corporate transactions in Financial Services including M&A and restructuring. He provides advice on regulatory matters and compliance to many financial institutions, fintechs and their representatives including payments, developments relating to blockchain technology, new generation money-services businesses and their impact on the sector.

He has assisted Canadian and foreign banks, insurance companies, credit unions and trust companies as well as a number of service providers in respect of financial regulatory questions in Canada.
