Dr Hamid Younesi (LLB, LLM, PhD, FHEA) is an Assistant Professor of Law at York Law School, University of York and a Fellow of Advance HE. He also serves as the Director of the Postgraduate LLM Law Programme. He joined the School of Law following several years of experience in international legal practice.

He holds an LLB with First Class Honours and two LLM degrees in Private Law and International Business Law, all awarded with distinction (Summa Cum Laude). He also earned an LLM in International Oil and Gas Law & Policy (Distinction) from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee, and completed his PhD at York Law School.

He was awarded the University Medal and Summa Cum Laude honours for both his LLB and LLM degrees. Furthermore, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship specialising in international investment law and international arbitration and was also a visiting scholar at the Peace Palace Library in The Hague, Netherlands.

He is a legal scholar and practitioner specialising in international economic law, with a focus on international investment law, international arbitration, energy law, AI in legal frameworks, and climate change law. He combines a robust academic background with extensive legal practice, having appeared in high-profile, complex international arbitrations before leading institutions such as the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), and the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Moreover, he has served as an arbitrator for several years in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.

In addition to his litigation experience, he has provided expert counsel to sovereign states, multinational corporations, and other stakeholders in international investment disputes and commercial litigations. His expertise also extends to serving as an advisor in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations, including proceedings before the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
