Dr. Magnus C. Abraham-Dukuma
Profile
Magnus currently works with the Science and Strategy Hub of the Gisborne District Council, New Zealand as the Senior Policy Advisor - Climate Change Focus, where he advises the government on mitigation, adaptation, and a just transition to a low carbon future. Prior to this role, he was affiliated with the Centre for Environmental, Resources and Energy Law (CEREL), Te Piringa - Faculty of Law, University of Waikato, New Zealand where he completed his PhD, led, and collaborated extensively on numerous research projects on energy and climate governance themes.
Magnus is also a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria with over 10-year post call experience. After graduating from the Rivers State University and the Nigerian Law School, he worked as an associate in several law firms before leaving the shores of Nigeria and continues to provide expert support services on energy and climate law and policy to some Nigerian law firms. He holds an LLM in Oil and Gas Law (with Distinction) from the prestigious University of Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom, and a PhD in Energy and Climate Change Law from the University of Waikato, New Zealand.
Magnus is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA); an International Bar Association (IBA) Scholar; and member, the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE). His research interests intersect energy and climate law and policy and their implications for a just transition to a low-carbon future. He is also a poet, and a consummate lover of life and all things beautiful.
