Profile

Simonetta Zarrilli is a legal officer in the Division on International Trade and Commodities of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Secretariat. She joined UNCTAD in 1988 and since then she has been working on a number of trade and development related issues - such as preferential tariff treatments for developing countries, trade and environment, standards and regulations, trade in services, intellectual property rights, and non-trade concerns in international trade. She has carried out a number of analytical, intergovernmental and technical cooperation activities in these areas. She has recently specialized in the interface between the multilateral trade system and energy policies.

Ms. Zarrilli has produced a large number of publications, including books, official UNCTAD papers, studies and essays. In particular, she is the editor of the following books: Energy and Environmental Services: Negotiating Objectives and Development Priorities (published in 2003 by UNCTAD); Trade Agreements, Petroleum and Energy Policies (published in 2000 by UNCTAD), Trade in Health Services: A development perspective (jointly published in 1998 by UNCTAD and the WHO), Eco-labelling and International Trade (published in 1997 by MacMillan). She cooperates with the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy of the University of Dundee, UK.

Ms. Zarrilli holds a LLM. degree from the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium and a B.A. degree from the University of Siena, Italy. She is a member of the Italian Bar.
