Shaimerden Chikanayev. PhD Student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Law. Partner of GRATA International Law Firm (currently taking a study sabbatical, and not an employee of GRATA).
Shaimerden is an advocate (member of the Almaty City Bar, Kazakhstan) with a large experience in CIS and Central Asia in particular. He has over 13 years of legal experience advising clients from both public and private sector on all legal aspects of energy and infrastructure projects, public-private partnerships (PPPs) and project finance, including cross-border lending transactions involving taking of security and cross-border capital markets transactions. Because of his unique regional expertise, Shaimerden is regularly involved by respective governments of countries of Central Asia, IFIs, MDBs, and corporations as international and local legal consultant on their infrastructure projects or to help with improvement of local legislations.
Shaimerden's main research interests are civil law, public-private partnerships, comparative private law, Eurasian Economic Union law, international investment law, oil & gas law and energy law.
