Profile

Todd Weiler is a Canadian lawyer whose practice focuses on investor-state arbitration. Since 1999, he has served as arbitrator, consulting expert and co-counsel in over two dozen investment treaty disputes. In 2006 Todd was named by the Global Arbitration Review as one of its "45 Under 45" in international arbitration and his name appears on the Who's Who Legal and Chambers Global lists of leading arbitration professionals. He is the author and editor of dozens of articles, essays and books on various topics in international trade, investment and dispute settlement.

In 1999, Todd Weiler founded the popular legal web site, www.naftaclaims.com. In 2006, he co-founded www.investmentclaims.com. In 2007, Todd Weiler began working with Juris Conferences to hold a day-long symposium on investment treaty arbitration every spring in Washington DC. Every year, the symposium unites up-and-coming and seasoned practitioners in discussion of four hot topics from contrasting perspectives, resulting in the publication of a new edited volume annually.

In 1997-1998, Todd Weiler served as Law Clerk to the Honourable Mr. Justice Wetston of the Federal Court of Canada. Between 1993 and 1998, he served in trade and regulatory policy positions in several the following Canadian federal government departments: Revenue Canada (Customs), the Treasury Board Secretariat of Canada (Regulatory Affairs Division), Industry Canada (Trade Policy: Services Division) and the Department of Canadian Heritage (Trade and Investment Policy Branch).

Todd Weiler holds an LL.M. in international law from the University of Michigan and a LL.M. in international law from the University of Ottawa. He also holds an LL.B. and an M.A. in public policy, from the University of Western Ontario, as well as an Hons. B.A. from the University of Waterloo.
