Dr. Sharma is the Founding CEO of Sustainability Alternatives Ltd, a UK-based environmental consulting firm registered in England and Wales. His company focuses on advancing clean air, climate resilience, and sustainable urban transformation through science-based, community-driven strategies. It also works with businesses to embed sustainability and ESG principles at the core of their operating models - aligning long-term growth with environmental responsibility and social impact. He also currently serves as a Senior Scientific Consultant (Greenhouse Gas Inventory) with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, contributing to national climate reporting under the UNFCCC through GEF-UNDP-MoEFCC initiatives.
Previously, as Manager - Air Quality at the WRI India Ross Center for Sustainable Cities, Dr. Sharma led municipal air quality initiatives across multiple Indian cities primarily Tier 2 and Tier 3, along with a few Tier 1 metros building strong partnerships between local governments, research institutions, and policy stakeholders to drive city-level action and capacity-building.
Academically, he holds a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Surrey (UK). His pioneering research on reducing air pollution exposure in young children received international recognition, with coverage in BBC, Forbes, The Telegraph, and other leading media outlets. He also holds two Master's degrees in environmental science and engineering - an MRes from Macquarie University (Australia) and an MS from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea).
Dr. Sharma has held research and academic roles at leading global institutions, including the University of Surrey (UK), GIST (South Korea), Macquarie University (Australia), University of Toledo (USA), and IIT Delhi (India). He has shared his work on international stages such as the Cambridge Particle Meeting, IAQM (UK), World Environment Expo, CMAS South America (Brazil), and the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.
