Uisdean Vass

Uisdean Vass has studied / practiced International and UK Oil and Gas Law since 1983. A University of Edinburgh Hons. Law graduate (1982), he holds the LLM in Oil and Gas from Louisiana State University (1985). Uisdean has spent eighteen years abroad studying / practicing in Louisiana, Argentina, Venezuela and Brazil. He has qualified as a Scots solicitor and Louisiana attorney and is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. His focus throughout this period was on oil and gas litigation (Louisiana) and then oil and gas business (South America).
In 2003, he returned home to Scotland, and practiced oil and gas law with a number of leading law firms, including a near ten-year stint with Maclay Murray & Spens LLP (now Dentons) as Head of Oil and Gas. He formed his own oil and gas law consultancy (VassPetro Limited) in 2020. He continues to practice a combination of UK and International oil and gas law. The heart of his practice is dealmaking, (whether farmouts, asset sales or share deals)) and drafting commercial oil and gas documents such as joint operating agreements, infrastructure agreements etc. He also advises on oil service/construction contracts and offers services such as expert witness work and training. He often provides oil and gas support to litigation teams.
Uisdean has been an active member of the Association of International Energy Negotiators over the years and served as on of three drafting co-chairs for the creation of the Asset Sale and Purchase Agreement. He has written and lectured extensively on oil and gas matters.
