Bruce W. Bean is a corporate and securities attorney with more than thirty years of experience in finance and oil and gas. He lived and worked in Russia from March 1995 to August 2003, eight formative years for the New Russia. He was Managing Partner of Coudert Brothers' Moscow office until June 1998 when he became Head of Corporate and Foreign Direct Investment for Clifford Chance - Moscow.

While he and his family were living in Moscow, he was active with the Gore-Chernomyrdin Commission and was a Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia from 1996 to 2003. He was Chairman of the Board of AmCham for two years, from 1998 to 2000, during Russia's Financial Crisis.

He has written dozens of articles and given even more presentations on all aspects of Doing Business in Russia and more recently, on Russia's Yukos Affair. He is the author of "Yukos and Mikhail Khodorkovsky: An Unfolding Drama," published in December 2004 in McCarthy, Puffer and Shekshina's "Corporate Governance in Russia," and of "Doing Business in the New Russia," 35 Int'l. Law. 961 (2001).

Since returning from Russia, he has been teaching, consulting and following the Yukos - Khodorkovsky matter on a daily basis. He is now editing a book (working title, "Caged Justice") on the Yukos Affair. Professor Bean is currently the Chairman of the American Bar Association's Russian-Eurasian Law Committee. He teaches "Doing Business in Transitional Political Systems" at Michigan State University Law School. He has previously taught at Columbia's Harriman Institute and in Moscow at the University of San Diego's Law School's Moscow Institute.
