Mr Longmuir is taking a very long-term view. Although the track record of long-term energy supply and demand forecasting has been rather weak, I would venture to say that a country that controls about 18 per cent of total fresh water resources on the planet will eventually (in 50 years, for example) depend on hydroelectric generation for nearly all of the grid-connected electric generation.
