Introduction
p>Since the beginning of 2002, Sudan has been engaged in peace negotiations aimed at ending an armed conflict that began shortly after the country gained independence from Britain in 1956. Parties and commentators alike agree that negotiations have now entered their final phase and that a comprehensive peace deal is to be expected within a matter of weeks. It seems like an appropriate time to review the main accomplishments so far and the remaining issues to be resolved.
