Introduction
Concerns about climate change are a recent phenomenon, originating only in the late 1980s, when the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) launched the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 1988, a scientific body with climate experts from all over the world. The findings of the IPCC and its various Assessment Reports paved the way for gradual international action.
