This article gives a brief account of the current state of international institutional arrangements for promoting renewable energy - the policies, institutions and stakeholders. Having explored the current scoreboard of international measures to promote energy consumption from RES, the article argues that international support is vital to encourage renewable energy. Since most RES technologies are still infant, gradually evolving, complex, costly per unit, face competitive restraints and require usually small-scale and long-term investments, some sort of limited subsidisation is vital. ...
