Abstract
In the EU directive on the promotion of electricity produced from renewable energy sources, indicative targets for the contribution of electricity from renewable energy sources to gross electricity consumption in 2010 are set. For many EU member states these targets require a substantial growth of the share of renewable energy sources in the national energy mix. To encourage investments in the production of electricity from renewable energy sources, several policy instruments can be used.
