Abstract
Petroleum oil is found largely in the Niger delta and peripheral areas of Nigeria. It is evacuated by oil companies, which operate in partnership with the government. The various oil producing communities have to co-exist with the paraphernalia of oil exploration activities. These oil operations are in conflict with the traditional occupations of the oil communities, which are primarily farming and fishing.
