Introduction
Recent estimates of oil and gas reserves in Kazakhstan have caused significant international focus on this former Soviet Union country. In order for Kazakhstan to emerge as a player in the global oil and gas industry it is imperative that certain things be put in place to attract the requisite foreign investment. Of vital importance is the fact that foreign investors require the security of a predictable and stable legal system that is based on principles of sanctity of contract and that provides for equitable redress in the event of a dispute arising out of their investment. ...
