Summary
Respect for human rights and sustainable development ought to be the basic tenets upon which any country rich in natural resources especially oil must base any investment in its extraction and development. Available evidence however indicates that this does not seem to be the case, instead of sustainable development and respect for human rights, investments associated with oil exploitation have rather come to be a curse to the people depriving them of their basic rights and unleashing abuses and deprivation on them.
