p>Overall energy demand in Europe is set to increase substantially over the next 20 years. However, there is still a great deal of scope for increasing the efficiency of energy use, particularly in the transition economies of Eastern Europe, in a bid to promote sustainable development and combat climate change. Dr Ria Kemper, Secretary General of the Energy Charter Secretariat, explains how inter-governmental cooperation can help countries to put in place the right policy framework for promoting energy efficiency.
