The DTI has recently launched the 23rd Seaward Licensing Rounds for oil and gas licences. However, since the second round of Offshore wind farm licensing in 2003, oil and gas companies face new competition for space on the U.K. Continental Shelf. This second round licensed a further 15 offshore wind farms, larger than those of the first round and further from the coastline, where they are more likely to co-exist with oil and gas works.
