Introduction - Objectives of this paper
This paper outlines how to ensure that the worst social and environmental impacts of a pipeline in a developing country are prevented and that the remaining impacts are mitigated. The impacts of pipelines inherently can and should be minor. The main way to ensure that the impacts are indeed minimized is to optimize the routing from the very earliest design phase.
