Abstract
Russia hosted the G8 Summit in July 2006 with global energy security high on the agenda. Russia's policy in dealing with its energy resources, particularly in light of its gas pricing dispute with the Ukraine earlier this year, has been the subject of much publicity and comment. Russia's commitment to the Energy Charter Treaty, which it has signed but still not ratified, is being questioned.
