Nordstream and Southstream have been promoted by Gazprom and the Russian Federation government a means of ensuring greater European supply security for Europe.[1] While this view of the two pipelines has been contested by numerous actors on the European stage and by commentators in the United States,[2] there has been little detailed critical analysis beyond security and environmental concerns of the pipeline themselves.
