China's Renewable Energy Strategies Face Headwinds

Introduction
May 2011 - The rapid expansion of low-carbon electricity is critical to China's ambitions to first constrain and then reduce the absolute level of carbon dioxide emissions from its energy sector. Although energy efficiency, nuclear energy and, possibly, carbon capture and storage will all play a significant role reducing emissions from the power sector, the government has put great emphasis on hydro-electricity , wind power and solar photo-voltaics in the short-term.
