Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore certain misperceptions about China's rare earth regulation during the dispute over Chinese rare earth metals in 2010-2011. Since China has dominated the global rare earth production, their regulation on the metals' exportation had made a direct impact on the global supply. Considering the strategic importance of rare earth metals, affected great powers asserted that China, as a member of WTO, should commit itself to GATT rules and enhance free trade of rare earth metals.
