Despite Iranian government protestations to the contrary, the international consensus is that Iran is moving ever closer towards ownership of nuclear weapons. Were it to acquire such armaments, with a medium-range rocket delivery capacity (which it already possesses) enabling it to strike neighbouring countries, the balance of power in the region might change fundamentally.
