Introduction
February 2017 - The present text represents an update of my earlier analysis published in OGEL in 2014. The situation surrounding sanctions gained political interest, and additional complexities and opacities developed in regards to the business relations. The latest developments, including the Glencore's purchase of Rosneft's assets, prove that sanctions have not produced a uniform vision in the west - harmful effects on Russian oil and gas seem to persist.
