Abstract
Decommissioning of offshore installations is a fast-approaching reality for the UK government. It is calculated that decommissioning costs will reach £28.7 billion by 2040, creating an imminent need for effective regulation. The UK Government is bound by several international and regional conventions dated back to the end of the 20th century that demand either removal, reuse or recycling of the offshore structures.
