Introduction

This OGEL special issues focuses on natural gas flaring. Natural gas "flaring" is a nasty word in today's international energy and environmental world. Natural gas flaring means two things: waste of a valuable commodity and it contributes to climate change. Justifiably so, both of these factors are driving down the volumes of natural gas that is flared around the world. National as well as international efforts to curb flaring has been effective and the oil and gas industry flares less and less gas as time goes on.
