Summary

The main changes introduced by Legislative Decree 79/1999 implementing EC Directive 96/92 with effect from 1 April 1999 can be summarised as follows: two parallel markets co-exist within the national electricity system: the captive market and the free market. Since 29 April 2003, the eligibility threshold has been reduced to 0,1GWh (corresponding to a market opening of approximately 70 per cent). Transmission and despatching are reserved to the state.
