Summary
The tiny island-state of Singapore has one of the highest standards of living in Asia, second only to Japan. The land area is approximately 680 square kilometres, with a population of 4.1 million. It is highly dependent on an efficient and modern system for the provision of electricity for its industries as well as for domestic use. Electricity was first introduced to Singapore in 1906.
