Paraphrasing earlier writers, security of energy may be defined as a supply of energy of acceptable quantity with an acceptable degree of reliability at an acceptable cost. Such a definition may also be inverted to address the concerns of energy suppliers with respect to security of demand. On the one hand such definitions may be derided as being so vague as to be quite useless.
