Summary
Gas accounts for almost 25 per cent of commercial energy consumption in the world against about 8 per cent in India. But it has been growing by about 5 to 6 per cent every year in the last decade, except for a slowing down in the last three years. Private production has been growing at a faster rate than in the public sector. In India the use has been almost entirely for power generation, as feedstock for fertilizer production and in some industries, but residential and transportation usage has been negligible.
