Summary
Underground natural gas storage is a mature industry in the USA, with over 80 years of safe and reliable operating history. There are 415 storage facilities nationwide, with 348 facilities developed in depleted gas and/or oil reservoirs, 40 facilities developed in aquifers and 27 facilities developed in salt. Total working gas capacity is 1.1x1011 m3 (3.9x1012 ft3) and there is 2.2x109 m3/day (7.8x1010 ft3/day) of peak deliverability.
