Introduction

This article analyses legislative requirements, practices, and processes for managing agricultural land use conflicts and coexistence of mineral resources, CSG, and renewable energy in Queensland. It examines the evolving legal landscape in Queensland, including the recently passed MEROLAA and the role of Coexistence Queensland. As part of this analysis, current coexistence regulation of multiple tenures in Queensland will be assessed against contemporary best practice regulation of coexistence in WA and SA, analogous Australian states with multiple tenure regulatory regimes. The resulting analysis will provide comparable principles and regulatory tools to encourage best practice coexistence for existing, new, and future land uses in the Australian energy transition, and inform recommendations.
