Summary

NeuConnect Britain Limited has submitted a planning application to Medway Council to develop the GB onshore components of NeuConnect, (or ‘the GB Onshore Scheme’). The GB Onshore Scheme consists of various specialist electrical equipment including an electricity converter station, a substation, a cable sealing end compound, and underground Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC) cables, as well as an access road, landscaping and drainage ponds.

An Environmental Statement (ES) accompanies the planning application, which reports the detailed results of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the GB Onshore Scheme. This Non-Technical Summary (NTS) of the ES provides readers with a broad understanding of:

  • The GB Onshore Scheme, its location and the components it consists of;
  • The existing environmental conditions of the surrounding area, including identification of key receptors that may be impacted as a result of the GB Onshore Scheme;
  • The likely significant environmental effects during the construction and operation of the GB Onshore Scheme and;
  • Some of the proposed mitigation measures within the GB Onshore Scheme’s design, and measures that will be implemented during construction and operation of the GB Onshore Scheme.
