Professor A F M Maniruzzaman , LLB (Honours) (first class first), LLM (first class first) (DU), M.Int'L.Law (ANU) (distinction), PhD (Cambridge), MED/C (Harvard), MCIArb, FRSA. He is Chair Professor in International and Business Law, University of Portsmouth Law School, UK (since 2004) and a member of the Centre for Blue Governance, the Centre for European and International Studies Research, and the Centre for Innovative and Sustainable Finance (CISF). He served as the Director of Research and Postgraduate Research Degrees in Law, University of Portsmouth Business School (2004-2013). He also taught at the University of Kent, U.K. as a Lecturer & Senior Lecturer in Law (1993-2004).

Professor Maniruzzaman has acted as a Tribunal Chairman / arbitrator, counsel and expert / consultant in multi-million-dollar international arbitrations (including some high-profile ICSID, ICC, and IICRA cases). He also acted as an International Legal Consultant to the Commonwealth Secretariat (HQ), London, governments, state-owned enterprises, multinational corporations and multinational law firms (including of the Magic Circle).

He served as the Honorary Special Adviser (constitutional & international legal matters) to the Honourable President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh (1996-2001).

He is also a Harvard trained mediator & negotiator (Harvard Law School - Program on Negotiation), and attained mediation certificates from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London.

He is a distinguished member of the International Academic Council of the University of Asia Pacific, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

He has been an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the Centre of Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee, Scotland (2005 to-date) and has served as an Honorary International Advisor & Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Law, Eastern University, Bangladesh. He has been a Visiting Professor of Law, School of Transnational Law, Peking University, a Guest Professor of International Law (2012 -15), Faculty of International Law, China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing and a Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Western Ontario /Western University, Canada (2007-8). He has also held senior honorary visiting academic positions at the Universities of Oxford (St John's College), Cambridge (Lauterpacht Research for International Law, Centre of International Studies), Kent (Kent Law School), and London (School of Law, Queen Mary).

He has acted as an external assessor for professorial appointments (including promotions within the professorial bands) at many highly reputed universities from around the world and for the Association of Commonwealth Universities, London. He has successfully supervised and examined over 60 PhD theses at various universities of the United Kingdom, Australia and Malaysia.

He is an Academic Council Member of the Institute of Transnational Arbitration (ITA), USA (2009 to-date); member of ILA International Committee on International Commercial Arbitration, London (1996 to-date); International Arbitration Institute, Paris (2008 to-date) and also served as a Council Member of the ICC Institute of World Business Law, Paris (2007-2015), and as a member of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration, The Hague.

He has been a Founding and Executive Committee Member of THE IDR GROUP (international dispute resolution specialists), London, a member of the International Board of the Energy Disputes Arbitration Center, Ankara, an Honorary Fellow of the International Islamic Centre for Reconciliation and Arbitration (IICRA), Dubai, UAE (2018-) and a member of the Legal Advisory Task Force of the Energy Charter Secretariat, Brussels (2014-to-date).

He has been a Research Fellow (Sr.) of the Energy Charter Secretariat, Brussels, a member of the European Court of Arbitration, Strasbourg; the Swiss Arbitration Association; and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN), Houston, USA. He has also served as a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law and its Specialist Groups: Water & Wetlands, Environmental Laws and Human Rights, and Energy Law & Climate Change and as a member of the Academic Council of the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (UMSAILS), Dhaka.

He has presented keynote speeches and papers, and presided over panels of expert discussants in many specialist international academic and professional conferences over many years around the world.

He has been an Editor and on the International Editorial / Advisory Boards of a number of reputed international legal periodicals (MJIEL, OGEL, TDM, CEJISS).

He is an author of numerous publications, and has extensively published in the areas of International Law, International Business Law, International Energy, Oil and Gas Law, International Investment and Trade Law and International Commercial Arbitration and Dispute Resolution. He has specialist research interest in the governance and regulation of artificial intelligence, digital trade and investment, and digital assets, etc.

He is the Lead Editor of a multi-volume UNESCO sponsored study titled International Sustainable Development Law (UNESCO-EOLSS, 2010, Oxford), and has acted as the Lead Editor of many specialist international legal journals including OGEL and TDM over the years. He has peer-reviewed for Oxford and Cambridge University Presses and acted as an expert reviewer for high-value research funding bids for ESRC (UK), Polish National Science Centre (Narodowe Centrum Nauki), Kraków, Israel Science Foundation, Jerusalem. He is listed in the WHO'S WHO IN THE WORLD 2012 (29th edition) of (Marquis Who's Who, U.S.A.), the Dictionary of International Biography 2012 (37th Edition, Cambridge) and Who's Who in Public International Law (Brill, 2012).

He has been an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh since 1983, and a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Dhaka, Bangladesh since 1985.

Professor Maniruzzaman loves poetry. He occasionally writes poems in Bengali and also in English.
